This week we are bending the definition of article to encompass television. I chanced upon a wonderful news story this morning on CBS’s Sunday Morning, which just so happens to be one of my favorite shows on television. This week’s Sunday Morning was replete with fascinating stories, including a behind-the-scenes look at the third season of Downton Abbey.
The feature broadcast this week, however, touched on self-publishing and traditional publishing with Sunday Morning’s habitual effort to explore issues succinctly and impartially.
“In Their Own Write” interviewed stars of both camps: Jamie Raab, the Executive Vice President and Publisher of Grand Central Publishing at Hachette, literary critic Lev Grossman, and the grandfather of self-publishing Richard Paul Evans, author of The Christmas Box.
If anything, “In Their Own Write” subtly suggests that self-publishers and publishers are moving toward a certain level of symbiosis. Respect, they argue, should be accorded both traditional and self-publishers.
